I like your analysis of the semi-colon very much, as it's long been my preferred piece of punctuation.Sharonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14872744958444734047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105587296187650411.post-17854291044186538482008-02-23T10:29:00.000-08:002008-02-23T10:29:00.000-08:00I've never been afraid to use the semi-colon; I be...I've never been afraid to use the semi-colon; I believe it's worthwhile if used correctly.

But that's just me!

I'm more of a parenthesis girl in my style.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03406942482508439839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105587296187650411.post-2208696763012863642008-02-23T06:42:00.000-08:002008-02-23T06:42:00.000-08:00Maybe you could think of your dashes as Dickinsoni...Maybe you could think of your dashes as Dickinsonian (Emily) rather than as wishy washy!

And sentence diagramming is still in vogue, amazingly; my husband teaches it in his English language structure class. The students find it akin to physics.Miss Cavendishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17461488799928956875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105587296187650411.post-20892429983391433572008-02-23T05:13:00.000-08:002008-02-23T05:13:00.000-08:00I tend to use a lot of dashes between phrases, whi...I tend to use a lot of dashes between phrases, which I suppose makes me wishywashy. My bugaboo is the comma, frankly; I use far too many of them and in inappropriate places, I am sure. I'm still looking around for the little grammar books that we used when I was in junior high - my memory was that they were somewhat smaller than 5x8 and contained such arcane topics as sentence diagramming.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
