Teed-off?

A very popular sandal look this season is this one, as demonstrated by Valentino: a single strap from ankle to toe.

However, this style might actually be a glamorous flip flop traveling incognito.

While I like this look very much on paper (or on the Web), it doesn’t work for me in “real life.” I think this sandal style would be more flattering with the addition of a slender bit across the width of the foot.

Consider the humble J Crew sandal below. It’s still delicate, but will stay on the foot more securely and will provide a more “finished” look.

Thoughts?

  1. I agree with you - though neither is a sandal (obviously) for a woman with a wide foot or bony joints. I also find this style completely lacking in support, so rather challenging for running around the city all day. It's great to look at but I think it's market is small (much like everything that's great to look at). Oh, and those toe thongs hurt my toe web!

  2. K. line--I have a wide foot--I'm sure it's from all those years growing up on a beach!--and do appreciate some support so I don't fall overboard, so to speak.

  3. Miss C: I'm confident that, if you owned them, they'd be perfect on you!

  4. There goes my enabling buddy again ;} For the record, I resisted the siren song of the Sigerson Morrisons--for now.

  5. Agreed: I can see myself making a mess of that skimpy shoe, tripping over it, or damaging it. I need to be strapped in. However, it is beautiful.

  6. I agree too, the first kind are completely unflattering on me!

  7. All my years of dance helped to contribute to my already lack of "foot" confidence. I always admire people that can wear their feet in these spaghetti strapped exposed and x-rated sandals.
    They are sexy.

  8. oh, my! I have lost a long message due to a click I don't know where... Anyway, since it all disappeared, might as well accept it and start all over. So - I have a pair just like the first one you posted and I confess I'm very interested by the j.crew. They seem very comfy and more attractive (design speaking) than the simple ones above. I wonder how they really look once you put them on.

  9. I've ordered the J Crew ones. They aren't due to arrive till the middle/end of May(!). I'll tell you how they fit/look when I finally get them.
