Will you please help me choose who should leave?
The gold Mary Jane has been with me the longest, but has never been worn. It was too hot to wear these in July (plus I hate closed toes in summer) and I had purchased them for fall anyway, because I love the idea of a cream patent shoe with opaque tights. But there’s the matter of all this gold. It’s crackly gold, and so very yellow that I’m unsure.
Its sister shoe is this similarly styled black patent and brown crackly metallic MJ. If the gold shoe is too much, I fear that this shoe may be too little. As a Mary Jane is a fairly conventional shape, I’d want a truly rocking texture. And I’m not sure if this crackly brown metallic stands out enough to meet my eccentricity quotient.
Both shoes, by the way, are by Juicy Couture, which also gives me pause re: quality. And they weren’t exactly modestly priced.
Finally, here’s the Tibi, in her peacock glory. This one could be a charmer, if only the toe were pointier and the embellishment smaller. I’m quite sure I’d never wear it. Tibi, alas, is not to be.
But: what do you think of the two MJs? Is the gold too bold? Is the brown too timid?
The gold is just bold enough. Spend your money on the eyecatching things and give humdrum a miss!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that brown's too timid, but I don't ask much from brown. I vote keep the brown, and send the others away.
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to hear what you decide to do.
And I love the way you displayed these with the Liberty!
I agree, the Tibi was misrepresented in the advertising. I do like the gold (eye-catching, interesting) but the brown is also nice. I think it depends on a) how you intend to wear them and b) what colour schemes predominate in your winter wardrobe. Can you give us a bit more info?
ReplyDeleteHmmm . . . I was thinking of the brown/black shoes to go with a cocoa brown Calyspo silk bubble skirt, as well as some tweedy brown pencil skirts. I wear these with cash crewnecks in a range of colors. But as those are all fairly classic shapes, I wanted a shoe that would really pop and enliven the look. I fear that the brown ones are too discrete.
ReplyDeleteThe gold shoes would also go with the pencil skirts, as well as with some jade-colored things I have. So, really, there's room for both, but I don't want the identical shoe in two colorways! My daughters are favoring the gold . . .
Miss C unfortunately there are so many post ironic influences that should never see the light of day but they do...I really had NO IDEA that HH used 90210 (the box set) as his muse. I took one look at those saggy high waisted jeans and thought Brenda Walsh.
ReplyDeleteI'm just waiting for some hip-young-thing-designer to buy the box set of Melrose Place...that's the kind of post ironic humor I'll buy into.
Now down to the shoobiz...say by-by to the brown.
I would keep both. Thing with me tho if I like something I have that in all different colours (shoes included)
ReplyDeleteI vote brown/black. But I'm the conservative of this bunch, I believe.
ReplyDeleteIn light of your comment, I'm with Matt. Keep the gold, lose the brown. Brown and gold coordinate nicely and I gather you are into the same brand of chic as me - prim meets edge. If you're getting the prim from the clothes, find the edge in the shoes.
ReplyDeleteThe gold, the gold, keep the gold- they will certainly pop (and make you smile very discreetly to yourself like an ravishing scent)!
ReplyDeleteI like the black; if it isnt too late?
