Prom Queenz

Is the High School Musical influence spilling over to grown-up style?

I’ve been noticing a trend that I’m calling the Prom Queen dress—full taffeta and/or net skirt, slender bodice. Preferably one-shouldered.

These dresses are highly embellished, utterly serious (no winking here), and would be perfect in a gymnasium filled with streamers.

But could you wear one to the Met without your graduation tassel?

I just ADORE this silhouette ... though I'll admit it's a wee bit impractical. Except, of course, at prom.

I have to admit, I like this style. I have always admired the full skirt.

Full disclosure: I almost bought the Tracy Reese one for an event, but was concerned about being too much of a confection . . .

For astonishing vintage prom dresses, check out Vintageous. I'd get a one-of-a-kind from there before I'd get anything from a current season.

Hmm...I think this could only work if you're not being too literal. You've got to wear it with something irreverent, modern, or tough.

This is SO TRUE, it's all so prom-y and it's not something I like, really. More grown-up style, please.
