Today, for the first time in ages, I went to the cosmetics section of Nordstrom.
I had a mission: a perfect pedicure color.
Earlier this week, I saw two shades I liked in Bazaar: YSL’s “Sublime Red” and Chanel’s “LA Sunset.” The YSL color baffled the salespeople and the Chanel is available only in California. I’m on the east coast.
Note to Mr. C, who’s en route to CA tomorrow: Think “LA Sunset” by Chanel.
I thus became cranky with Bazaar, which is my usual mood, anyway, after I look at that magazine (note that I didn’t say “read”). Why feature two nail polish colors if they aren’t available??!!??
So I regrouped and took another spin around the Chanel counter. I saw a red, popped it open, and tested the pigment on my fingernail. Even Nordstrom’s creepy lighting couldn’t detract from its perfect redness.
The polish is called “Dazzling” and is part of the Holiday 2007 collection. Holiday, schmoliday; this polish works for the summer city and beach. Something tells me I should buy another bottle or two in case it’s discontinued.
And I even bought a very subtle, lightly red-ish lipstick too: Chanel Number 104. 1 + 0 + 4 = 5. Chanel No. 5. And what do you wear to bed?

i had a similarly frustrating experience today when i tried to paint my toenails a lovely coral shade only to have them come out a neon shade of orange. glad your color worked out...would love to see what it looks like!
I'm thinking about ordering the LA Sunset from Chanel.com but I'm worried about exactly the same thing, now that I've engaged in a good hour of internet research. A great coral is an elusive color. I haven't actually cracked open my new polish yet; I'm hoping it looks as good as it did in the shop!
So you think I would like that red? I used to wear only Chanel, but they kept discontinuing my colors.
Wendyb, Both the lip color and the vernis could be great reds for you. The lip would probably be more casual, since it's a softer hue. I think I'll be sticking with my Bobbi Brown pinky-browns.
Chanel has beautiful nail colors. I tried a metallic gold in Bloomie's yesterday, and was really pleased with how it looked.
Metallic gold sounds pretty good to me. Maybe an exchange is in order . . .
Chanel does have beautiful nail colors (I love that DV called it "varnish") and they last so well too.
Once more I agree with your assessment of Bazaar. Why do I subscribe to it?? I too am cranky after flipping (not reading) through it. But I think we've had this conversation before, Miss C.
Deborah, Not to harp on the subject (or overindulge in puns), but the lack of substance in Bazaar infuriates me . . .
I keep hoping, hoping that the next issue will different. But alas. I'm again left with my American and British Vogues.
