A Self-Conch-ious Post

Here I am on Nantucket, having the loveliest time walking up and down the beach, gathering tiny shells.

My favorites are the shells that are paper thin, translucent, and either gold or silver. Upon return to the mainland, I plan to put them in water, in a glass bowl, to encourage their shimmeriness.

My middle daughter found two pink conch shells on the water's edge today.  For this PEIslander, they were like buried treasure.

Ah, but I did not take the photo. I will post some, especially of the beautiful vitrine of a local antique shop, but as I forgot my camera-computer cord, those posts must wait til August.

Conch is also tasty. Beautiful and delicious. Got to appreciate a mollusk who can multi-task. Have a great vacation!

I remember gathering those thin shells during childhood visits to our friends on Cape Cod... we called them "jingle shells" after the noise they made when we shook a handful of them. Enjoy your lovely vacation!

Your daughter must have been thrilled with her find -- conch shells are so beautiful! I found a much plainer moon snail shell in the muddy sand we pulled our kayaks through the other day, and I'm tickled enough with it, though much less polished and ornamented than the conch. Enjoy your beachtime!
