What bookbag on earth complements floaty dresses and heels? A proper briefcase is just ghastly; a schoolgirl satchel (which I have) is too dark (mine is a cognac colour) and perhaps too formal as well.
My only possibility is an oversize, white, woven Dean & Deluca shopper, which would look silly, rather than "right."
Picture this in white, with two large front pockets, logo at the top.
So I'm calling upon all you savvy gentle readers: what bag would be good for schlepping my books around campus while I wear un-schleppy, feminine clothing? And if said bag would accommodate my wallet, keys, and lipstick, all the better!

What's your budget?
Modest-medium: under 5.
I'm in love with tote bags from Beirn, which you can find at Bergdorf and Neiman Marcus. They're about $300 but you can also find them discounted for half that at Blue Fly. They're roomy, snakeskin (although they do have non-snake ones), and inexpensive. They look great with floaty dresses.
I have to say, I cop out. I use my current handbag of choice, and just use a linen tote for books & papers. LL Bean usually. As do many fashion editors I know...LLGxx
I just remembered that you don't like snakeskin (although I've felt these bags and they're really smooth--you don't feel scales at all). What about the New Mia Carryall from Coach (it's around $350).
I think a tote looks best with a floaty dress.
I have no suggestions but I look forward to hearing what your other readers have to say.
Thank you, all,
I've come to one decision: a tote is the way to go! Now I'll just have to keep researching . . .
TF: thanks for remembering my anti-snake quirk! The bags you cite are beautiful, though.
