Literary Fashion: Hero's Shoes

Buskins of shells all silvered, used she,
And branched with blushing coral to the knee;
Where sparrowes perched, of hollow pearle and gold,
Such as the world would wonder to behold:
Those with sweete water oft her handmaid fills,
Which as she went would chirrup through the bills.

--Christopher Marlowe, Hero and Leander
**Yes, I know that buskins are boots and that these shoes are for Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. But I think they evoke the playful spirit of Hero's buskins, hence their picture here.
